COMPANY PROFILE

Carterra is a fast-growing life sciences company in Salt Lake City, Utah.  The Carterra name is based on two core concepts: Cartography (mapping) and terra (world), literally meaning “mapping the world.”  This represents the Company’s exciting new high-speed, high-resolution, label-free biosensor technology, which is being used by leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to explore new worlds in antibody discovery and small molecule drug discovery that were previously impossible to investigate.  Our products allow researchers to identify potential therapeutic targets early in the drug discovery process, where risks and costs can be significantly mitigated.

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Electrical Engineer to join our innovative team, specializing in the development of advanced biosensors and complex instrumentation systems. This role requires expertise in electronic circuit design for control and communication subsystems, cable design, power design, proficiency in generating electrical schematics and printed circuit board designs, and a strong background in structured development processes to deliver robust, high-performance electrical design solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Provide technical direction for development of electrical design solutions for new product development and sustainment of legacy products.
  • Electrical Design and Development: Design, develop, and optimize electronic devices and subsystems for biosensors and intricate instrumentation ensuring reliability and performance under stringent requirements. Responsibilities may also include building PCBA and cable assemblies for prototyping and development purposes.
  • System Design and Integration: Assist with development of the system electrical and embedded software design architectures for new product development. Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and software engineers to integrate electrical devices and subsystems for biosensors consisting of motors, sensors, controllers, communication devices, cables, power distribution, and circuit boards, ensuring seamless functionality. Generate block diagrams for systems and subsystems that establish design relationships (e.g. transfer functions).
  • Development Processes: Implement and adhere to rigorous electrical and embedded software design development processes, including requirements and specification development and analysis, design reviews, schematic and wire diagram reviews, code reviews, and testing methodologies.
  • Debugging and Validation: Perform and/or assist with detailed debugging, performance profiling, and validation of electrical board and system designs and embedded software designs to meet functional, safety, and regulatory standards for complex instrumentation.
  • Documentation: Create comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, electrical schematics and wire diagrams, test plans, and user manuals, to support development, manufacturing, and compliance.
  • Mentorship: Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering best practices in electrical design and embedded software process adherence.
  • Innovation: Stay abreast of advancements in biosensor technology, electrical engineering and embedded software design proposing and implementing innovative solutions to enhance product capabilities.
  • Project Management: Assist with project planning, project execution, and risk management of electrical design tasks and ensure timely completion of those tasks within a bounded timeline.

Depending on level and experience, additional responsibilities may include providing technical direction and leadership over development of embedded software solutions as well as other technical objectives tied to new and existing projects.
